Excited for Halloween

I am super excited this year for Halloween. Not only is the day of the dead my favorite holiday, Christmas second, but it will also be our daughters first Halloween.  I do wish we could have done more as far as festivity-wise but between work, baby and money it just was not on the board this year.

I love how for one day, two if you live in Monmouth/ Ocean county New Jersey, you are able to dress up and just be who you want to be. I love all things nerdy so of course I would have loved to have been able to afford a stormtrooper or a realistic Indiana Jones costumes but again, the money thing.  Our daughter was originally meant to be born on Halloween but as stubborn as she is, she waited til November 1st to grace us with her presence.

This year is going to be that much better with the premiere of season 2 of Stranger Things. The Netflix show that locked me and my wife down for a total of 8 hours straight when it came on last year, or whenever that was. It was great, we spent the entire weekend indoors, ordered Chinese food and had our wine and snacks.

Our daughter will get to enjoy her first birthday dressed as a princess with Halloween related snacks, sort of. We are still unsure on how trick or treating will work since her bedtime, chosen by her and we just stuck with it, is at 6:30pm every night. This will most likely be the only Halloween that she does not fully partake in and that is OK. She would not remember this one anyways. It's more of a holiday for the photo albums.

This time next year will be much different. By that time Mealz will know fully whats going on so it will be well worth it. She'll probably have some friends, hopefully. And the costume selection will be legit. No more of this puffy baby costume crap. She is cute as hell as a lawn gnome though.

Great Year for Those Halloween Feels...

   This year has been one of the best years for Halloween, speaking for myself here. Sure the day was great when I was a kid. I couldn't wait till I got home from school and got into whatever it was that I was being for the night and meet up with friends to go around to the so called "rich neighborhoods" to gather a bag full of treats that I would never eat. It was all fun and games but never has it felt so great. I find that to be true to the fact that our 2 year old is obsessed. I wrote about this obsession before and am still amazed by it. Joining the Subie Cult...it's real...

I used to think the force was made up, just some far off mystical story that people made up. But it's not! It's true, all of it... the power, the stories, the following... all true. The power and truth that I speak of is the cultish following that is a part of all Subaru owners. You have no idea it's happening but once you realize it has, you always find yourself sitting there saying to yourself, usually while sitting in your Subie, "Huh... would you look at that... I am in a cult... and I kinda LIKE IT". Subaru has been pumping out the same 4-6 models of AWD vehicles for the past decade and has grown an incredible following from all sorts of people. This Poor Mans Diet...

   Time and time again people comment at my size and weight. Usually the comments come in the form of either mockery or in a way to make me feel inferior to the larger person spitting the insult. The comment is not always meant as an insult but either way it makes me step back and feel pretty bad about the size I am and have been for the past 10 years. I am 5'and 5", weighing in at 120 pounds. This may sound ideal to most but for someone like me, it's not where I am comfortable being. Have I accepted this size? Yes, of course, I have no choice. I'm Hispanic with a high metabolism. I eat to gain weight and it vanishes overnight. I can only work out so much before I start to burn more weight. Not what I like especially since I work in a field where I deal with macho type personas that try to show dominance by size. Just like in the animal world where a larger male will show dominance over a smaller male. Larger guys don't scare me but they like to think it does.
